You can get a heavy 44 mag load up to about 1,482 ft. lbs. and the .45 Colt to only about 1,350 ft. lbs. The difference is about 130 ft. lbs., which makes the max 44 Mag about 9.5% more powerful than the max 45 Colt ammo.

I use 8.0 gn of Win 231 for cream puff 44 mag target loads. It does not have too much kick and with a SWC lead bullet it is good for shooting paper. For full load 44 mag I go with 2400 at 21 GN. Win 231 too fast of a powder for traditional 44 mag shooting. Titegroup in a 44 mag is for lighter loads,not 8 grains and above as you found out, Unique will make better shooting and reduce recoil. For my target loads, i no longer use TG switched to VV 320 10 years or so ago, meters perfect in my Dillon and is cleaner.
